Prom is in full swing for the new 2011 season with new styles and colors. But nothing brings everything together without that special Hairstyle for that Picture Perfect Moment! Every dress has a special characteristic about them that stands out. Most dresses either have a one-shoulder, strapless, or drop dead gorgeous back, but depending on what kind of hairstyle you have you may just cover the most important part of your dress. So how do we make sure that you are glamorous from head to toe? Here are a few Hairstyling Tips to make your Prom hair Decision Easier.
1. One-Shoulder: Most of time when you fall in love with a beautiful one-shoulder dress is because of the amazing style/sequins throughout the whole strap. If this is the key feature of your dress you don’t want to hide it. One hairstyle for example is a side pony. Simple, Sleek, and Curly! The first way of styling this down do is by off center parting with the hair brushed smooth to one side and the tresses collected and pinned by the ear. Small, loose curls are added to the tresses and spaced to show individual strands. Always make sure that your pony is the opposite side of your one shoulder strap. It is easy to say that your facial features will pop with your hair tied down and to the side away from the face.
2. Strapless: If you have sexy shoulders, show them off!! With a strapless dress you have many options as for how to do your hair. Down and to the side, up and pinned back, or a little bit of everything! I would recommend fun and relaxed tresses for this type of dress. If you are looking for the perfect prom down hairstyle, the first thing that you should do is apply a mousse with a leave in conditioner in the hair. Once you have done this, simply part the hair straight down the middle. Using a large radial brush, blow dry the back of the hair so that it kicks out. This will help to add body to wavy hair and produce optimal effects for this style. This should be immediately followed by blowing out each side of the hair with the hair dryer as well. A little bit of hairspray you’re ready for your night to begin!
3. Drop Dead Gorgeous Back: Some girls want those low back or crisscross back dresses to show off their amazing personalities. Depending on your hair length you may be limited to what kind of hair styles you can do so you don’t cover that key feature of the dress. For this type of style I would recommend an up-do and make your statement dress be known. A basic French Twist would work perfectly! Smooth hair into a low ponytail. Do not use a ponytail holder; just hold the hair in place while you begin the style. Lift the tail straight up against the back of the head in the position you'd like the twist to lie. Twist the hair slightly to form a thick roll. Bend the roll to tuck ends under, noting that the bend at the top will be the top of the finished twist. Tuck the entire roll inside itself with consistent pressure to keep hair on the outside of the twist smooth. Keep tucking until the outer edges of the roll disappear, leaving a crease at the edge of the twist. Secure the twist with bobby pins, hair pins, a claw, hair sticks, or other accessories. Use mousse if necessary to tame stray strands to present a slick, smooth appearance.
Many girls enjoy adding elaborate details to their prom hair styles, such as glittering hair pins, decorative combs, or other hair accessories. Be sure that these items are firmly secured no matter what type of dancing you will do; a missing piece can be quite noticeable on a night when details are carefully observed. One detail that a few girls need to consider each prom night is the possibility of being voted prom queen. If you are on the potential court, you should be sure that if you are chosen, wearing a tiara or crown will not damage your hair style.
