how do you put your hair up in a . . .

I no this is going to sound really dumb but i'm sorta a tom boy. Not into the hole make up and hair thing. Well anywho i was wondering how do you put up your hair in a bun with a bunch of like ummm i guess you could say waves? Like somthing like this

well, when i got mine done something like that, she had put it in a high ponytail first.. then she piece by piece curled it with a curling iron and used bobbie pins to pin them in a certain place.She then sprayed ALOT of hair spray to keep it up all night. and the results were the best! the curles stayed in no matter how much i jumped and danced around, not to mention when i took the updo down it stayed curley and beautiful till i washed it out with shampooo...

I am also a tomboy and wanted an awesome hairstyle that is partly up and down at the same time and ur picture helped me out a whole lot! i thought that this was a perfect hairstyle for my homecoming, since my dress is strapless i needed something partly down and this will b it (if my styalist can do it!) so thanks again!
